Family-Owned Since 1972

The Original Mowbray’s Tree Service, Inc., was established in 1972 as a family-owned business. Our company is a certified 100 percent Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE).

John Mowbray, our founder, moved from Maryland in 1965 to California with two employees. Mowbray’s initially began as a small subcontractor to Asplundh. Over the years, our company grew by adding more tree trimming crews. In 1972, John had taken Mowbray’s to a new level and became a direct contractor to Southern California Edison (SCE). Due to organizational changes at Edison, Mowbray’s once again became a subcontractor under Asplundh. As our company grew and expanded it was incorporated in 2002, but continued to operate as a subcontractor.

Dedicated Leadership

In 2012, under the leadership of the Mowbray family’s eldest son, Rick Mowbray, our company grew financially from operating as a $12 million subcontractor under Asplundh to prime contractor status working directly with major utilities including SCE, PG&E, and SMUD. Mowbray’s produced over $80 million in annual revenue within six years.
Today, Mowbray’s workforce has grown to 625 employees. Mowbray employs many experts from the tree and forestry industries, providing leadership to the field crews and management, possessing certifications from ISA, TCIA, and Tree Risk Assessment. All employees are trained and certified for First Aid, EHAP, and Aerial Rescue.

With a clear focus on Worker Safety under the direction of our Corporate Director of Safety, Mowbray has developed a safety culture through training all supervision of field crews. Safety is the primary business for Mowbray’s Tree Service. As one of the most dangerous industries in the United States, safety is never an option.

Mowbray’s owns a “State of the Art” fleet of tree pruning and removal equipment. Our continued leadership in the industry places us in a position to be the best at what we do. Our focus is always safety. Our future growth is dependent on doing everything we do, right!
